Chemical Identity: Its IUPAC name is N,N-dimethyltetradecylamine N-oxide. Its CAS number is 3332-27-2 and its molecular formula is C₁₆H₃₅NO.

pH Dependence: The behavior of amine oxides changes with pH. In acidic conditions, they exhibit cationic properties, while in alkaline conditions, they are non-ionic. It is effective within a pH range of 5–9 (1% in H₂O).

Physical Form: It is typically available as a colorless to light-yellow liquid or paste.

Primary Applications
OA-14 is a versatile ingredient valued for several functional properties:

Personal Care Products: This is its primary application. It is commonly used in shampoos, body washes, hand soaps, and conditioners. In these products, it serves as a cleansing agent, foam booster, and conditioner. It produces rich, stable foam and leaves hair feeling soft and manageable, while also reducing the irritation caused by other anionic surfactants.

Household & Industrial Cleaners: Due to its excellent detergency, thickening, and foaming abilities, it is used in hard surface cleaners, dishwashing detergents, and alkaline cleaners. It is also stable in the presence of bleach, such as hypochlorite.

Other Industrial Uses: It functions as an emulsifier, dispersant, and anti-static agent in various formulations. It is also used in oilfield applications as a demulsifier and in enhanced oil recovery.

Compatibility & Synergy
OA-14 is noted for its excellent compatibility with anionic, cationic, nonionic, and amphoteric surfactants. This allows it to be effectively combined with other ingredients to boost the overall cleansing power and foam stability of a formulation.
