The harm of sodium polyacrylate to humans

Posted on October 26, 2023October 26, 2023 By admin No Comments on The harm of sodium polyacrylate to humans

Sodium polyacrylate PAAS is a commonly used polymer compound, widely used in industries such as water treatment, textiles, papermaking, pharmaceuticals, etc. When used correctly, sodium polyacrylate is safe for the human body, but if exposed to it for a long time or used improperly, it may cause some harm.

The following are the hazards that sodium polyacrylate may pose to the human body:

Skin irritation: Sodium polyacrylate can irritate the skin and eyes, causing discomfort symptoms such as redness, itching, and pain. Therefore, when in contact with sodium polyacrylate, direct contact with skin and eyes should be avoided, and timely cleaning should be carried out.

Respiratory irritation: Sodium polyacrylate powder can enter the respiratory tract through inhalation, causing irritation to the throat, nose, and lungs. Long term inhalation of large amounts of sodium polyacrylate powder may lead to airway inflammation and asthma.

Digestive system irritation: Sodium polyacrylate may cause irritation in the mouth and digestive tract, leading to digestive system discomfort symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Environmental impact: Sodium polyacrylate is difficult to degrade in water and may pose a threat to aquatic organisms. In addition, if a large amount of sodium polyacrylate enters the soil, it may affect plant growth and soil quality.

It should be noted that the toxicity of sodium polyacrylate is relatively low and generally does not cause serious harm to the human body. However, during use, safe operating procedures should be followed, direct contact with skin and eyes should be avoided, and good ventilation conditions should be maintained. If you accidentally come into contact with sodium polyacrylate, you should wash it in a timely manner and consult a doctor for treatment.
