Storage method of antiscalant ATMP

Posted on April 24, 2025 By admin No Comments on Storage method of antiscalant ATMP

Proper storage of ATMP (liquid or solid form) is essential to maintain its effectiveness and ensure safety. Below are the key guidelines:

1. Storage Conditions

Parameter Requirement Reason
Temperature 5–40°C (avoid freezing or high heat) Prevents crystallization (solid form) or degradation.
Container Plastic (HDPE) or Stainless Steel ATMP is acidic (pH ~2) and can corrode carbon steel.
Sealing Tightly sealed Prevents moisture absorption (solid form) or evaporation (liquid).
Ventilation Dry, well-ventilated area Avoids vapor accumulation (especially for liquid ATMP).
Light Exposure Protect from direct sunlight UV light may degrade ATMP over time.

2. Shelf Life & Stability

  • Liquid ATMP: Typically 12–24 months if stored properly.

  • Solid ATMP (Crystalline): Up to 24 months in dry conditions.

  • Check before use: If discolored (brownish) or has sediment, test efficacy before application.

3. Safety Precautions

  • Personal Protection: Wear gloves and goggles when handling (ATMP is corrosive to skin/eyes).

  • Spill Response: Neutralize with alkaline substances (e.g., soda ash) and rinse with water.

  • Incompatible Materials: Avoid contact with strong oxidizers (e.g., bleach) or reactive metals (e.g., aluminum).

4. Special Cases

  • Freezing Conditions:

    • If liquid ATMP freezes, thaw at room temperature and mix thoroughly before use.

  • Bulk Storage:

    • For large tanks, use FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) or PP-lined steel to prevent corrosion.

5. Transportation

  • UN Number: Not classified as hazardous for transport, but label as “Corrosive” (pH <2).

  • Packaging: Use HDPE drums or IBC tanks with secure closures.

Summary of Best Practices

✔ Store in HDPE/SS containers, sealed and dry.
✔ Maintain moderate temperature (5–40°C).
✔ Avoid contact with oxidizers, metals, and moisture.
✔ Monitor shelf life and test degraded product.

Proper storage ensures ATMP remains effective for scale inhibition in water treatment systems. For long-term bulk storage, consult the manufacturer’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet).
