Principles of the role of flocculant agent

Posted on July 15, 2023 By admin No Comments on Principles of the role of flocculant agent

The principle of the function of flocculant is to condense the properties of the material in the solution, so that the tiny particles that suspend the solution in the solution are concentrated into large blocks, which is convenient for precipitation or filtering.
Flocculants are usually polymer compounds. They have polar groups or contain a large amount of charge. They can adsorb or compound reactions with the particle surface or soluble molecules in the solution. These polymer compounds generate attraction or exclusion with the surface of the particles, which promotes the interactive force between particles to enhance the force, so that the particles are concentrated into larger group blocks. In addition, the flocculant can also change the pH value of the solution or ion concentration to change the charging state in the solution to change, thereby promoting the agglomeration of particles.
The principle of the function of flocculant can be summarized as the following aspects:
1. Adsorption effect: The absorption of the flocculant molecules and the surface of the particles, forming a flocculation group.
2. Neutralization: The polarity or the charging group in the flocculant is neutralized with the charge of the particle surface, reducing the exclusion of the particles, and promoting the gathering of particles.
3. Spatial exclusion: The polymer agglomeration formed in the solution of the flocculator molecule in the solution. By occupying the space, the interaction force between the particles is enhanced and the particles gather.
4. particle bridge connection: flocculant molecules can connect two or more particles through the bridge to gather particles into groups.
Through the above effect, the flocculant can effectively gather the tiny particles in the solution into a larger group, so as to facilitate subsequent precipitation or filtering separation operations.
