PBTC 50%: High-Efficiency Scale and Corrosion Inhibition for Demanding Industrial Systems

Posted on September 21, 2026 By admin No Comments on PBTC 50%: High-Efficiency Scale and Corrosion Inhibition for Demanding Industrial Systems

PBTC (2-Phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid) is a specialized organophosphonate that combines phosphonic acid and carboxylic acid functional groups in a single molecule. Shandong Kairui Chemistry Co., Ltd. supplies PBTC as a 50% active aqueous solution, manufactured to HG/T 3662-2010 standard, delivering consistent performance in the most demanding water treatment environments.

Structural advantage. The dual functional structure of PBTC—a phosphonate group and three carboxylic acid groups—enables both threshold scale inhibition and crystal modification. This molecular architecture gives PBTC superior performance over conventional organic phosphonates, particularly under high-temperature, high-hardness, and high-alkalinity conditions where other inhibitors lose effectiveness.

Excellent chemical stability. PBTC 50% maintains performance in the presence of strong oxidizing agents including chlorine, bromine, bleach, chlorine dioxide, and hydrogen peroxide—a critical advantage in cooling water systems where continuous chlorination is standard practice. The product also resists hydrolysis under alkaline and acidic conditions, ensuring long-term stability in formulated products.

High calcium tolerance. PBTC exhibits very good calcium tolerance and a low tendency to adsorb on turbidity-forming matter, which minimizes inhibitor losses and ensures consistent performance across varying water qualities. This makes it particularly effective for high-hardness waters where precipitation risk would otherwise reduce inhibitor efficiency.

Key applications. PBTC 50% is widely used in circulating cooling water systems, oilfield water injection systems, industrial cleaning formulations, and metal treatment processes. It functions as an excellent zinc salt stabilizer, improving zinc solubility and enabling effective corrosion protection in alkaline systems. When used alone, the typical dosage is 5–15 mg/L; in formulated products, PBTC is commonly combined with zinc salts, copolymers, organophosphonates, and azoles for synergistic performance.
