HEDP·Na₄ (Tetrasodium Salt of 1-Hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic Acid) is an effective organic phosphonate chelating agent used in textile printing and dyeing. Its primary functions are as a peroxide stabilizer and color-fixing agent. Its effectiveness comes from its strong ability to chelate metal ions that can otherwise interfere with dyeing and finishing processes.
Key Applications in Textile Processing
Peroxide Stabilizer in Bleaching: This is its most critical application. During hydrogen peroxide bleaching, trace metal ions like iron and copper catalyze the rapid decomposition of peroxide, leading to uneven bleaching and fiber damage. HEDP·Na₄ acts as a stabilizer by forming stable complexes with these metal ions (e.g., Fe³⁺, Cu²⁺), preventing their catalytic effect and controlling the decomposition rate of the peroxide. This ensures gentle, uniform bleaching that protects the fabric’s strength and quality.
Color-Fixing Agent: HEDP·Na₄ helps to improve the fixation of dyes onto textiles. By chelating metal ions in the dye bath, it prevents them from forming insoluble complexes with the dye, which can lead to color loss or dullness. This contributes to brighter shades and better overall color fastness.
General Chelating & Dispersing Agent: Beyond bleaching and dyeing, it is used in general textile wet processing to sequester metal ions that can cause issues, such as precipitation of dyes or other auxiliaries. This improves the overall bath stability and processing efficiency.
Product Characteristics & Safety
