Textile printing and dyeing auxiliaries are a broad category of specialty chemicals. They are essential for preparing, dyeing, printing, and finishing textiles, ensuring processes run efficiently and final fabrics meet quality standards. These auxiliaries are typically classified by the stage of the textile processing cycle in which they are used.
Pre-treatment Agents
These chemicals prepare the fabric for dyeing by removing impurities and making it absorbent.
Desizing agents: Remove sizing agents like starches that were applied to warp yarns for strength.
Scouring agents: Detergents and surfactants that remove natural waxes, oils, and dirt from the fibers.
Bleaching agents: Chemicals like hydrogen peroxide used to whiten fabric and remove natural color.
Wetting agents: Lower the surface tension of water to help it penetrate the fabric quickly and evenly.
Chelating/sequestering agents: Bind to metal ions in water and fiber to prevent them from interfering with dyes and chemicals. Fo example: ATMP、HEDP、EDTMPA、IDS.Na4、GLDA.Na4、MGDA.Na3 etc.
Dyeing Auxiliaries
These are used during the dyeing process to ensure level, vibrant, and colorfast results.
Leveling agents: Control the dye strike rate to prevent uneven or blotchy dyeing.
Dispersing agents: Help insoluble dyes (like disperse dyes) stay suspended in the dye bath. Fo example: PAAS、HPMA etc.
Carriers: Swell synthetic fibers, allowing dye molecules to penetrate more easily.
Dye-fixing agents: Bind the dye to the fiber after dyeing, enhancing wash and light fastness.
Reducing/Oxidizing agents: Used to prepare or process specific dye types (e.g., vat dyes).
Printing Auxiliaries
These chemicals are used in textile printing pastes to ensure sharp patterns and proper dye fixation on the fabric.
Thickeners: Natural or synthetic gums and polymers used to increase the viscosity of the printing paste, preventing the design from bleeding.
Binders: Used for pigment printing to fix the pigment particles to the fabric surface.
Emulsifiers: Help mix oil and water-based components in the printing paste.
Finishing Auxiliaries
These chemicals are applied at the final stage to impart specific functional or aesthetic properties to the finished fabric.
Softeners: Make the fabric feel softer, smoother, and more supple to the touch.
Water/Oil repellents: Fluorocarbons or other agents that make the fabric resistant to water and stains.
Flame retardants: Chemicals that reduce the fabric’s flammability.
Anti-microbial agents: Provide protection against bacteria, odor, and mold.
UV absorbers: Protect the fabric and wearer from UV radiation.
