What products do stabilizers include?

Posted on November 30, 2023 By admin No Comments on What products do stabilizers include?

Stabilizers can refer to a variety of different products used in various industries for different purposes. In the context of water treatment, stabilizers are chemicals that help maintain the stability and effectiveness of other water treatment agents or processes. Here are some common types of stabilizers used in water treatment:

  1. pH Stabilizers: These are chemicals used to control and stabilize the pH levels of water. Examples include sodium carbonate (soda ash), sodium bicarbonate, and sulfuric acid.
  2. Oxidation Stabilizers: These chemicals are used to stabilize oxidizing agents, such as chlorine or hydrogen peroxide, to prevent their premature degradation or loss of effectiveness. Examples include sodium bisulfite, sodium metabisulfite, and sodium thiosulfate.
  3. Chelating Agents: Chelating agents, such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) or citric acid, are used to form stable complexes with metal ions in water, preventing their interference with water treatment processes or causing unwanted precipitation.
  4. Dispersants: Dispersants are used to prevent the agglomeration or settling of suspended particles or colloids in water. They help keep the particles dispersed and maintain the stability of the water system. Polyacrylates and lignosulfonates are commonly used dispersants.
  5. Scale Inhibitors: Scale inhibitors are used to prevent the formation of scales caused by the precipitation of mineral salts like calcium carbonate or calcium sulfate. Polyphosphates, phosphonates (such as ATMP mentioned earlier), and phosphoric acid are examples of scale inhibitors.
  6. Corrosion Inhibitors: Corrosion inhibitors are chemicals that protect metal surfaces from corrosion. They form a protective film on the metal surface, reducing the rate of corrosion. Common corrosion inhibitors include zinc phosphate, sodium nitrite, and various organic inhibitors.

These are just a few examples of the different types of stabilizers used in water treatment. The specific choice of stabilizers depends on the water quality, treatment objectives, and the specific processes or agents used in the water treatment system.
