The role of reverse osmosis membrane scale inhibitor

Posted on August 21, 2023 By admin No Comments on The role of reverse osmosis membrane scale inhibitor

Reverse osmosis membrane scale inhibitor is a chemical treatment agent used in reverse osmosis (RO) membrane systems, mainly used to prevent fouling and blockage on the membrane surface. Its functions include the following aspects:

Prevention of mineral salt scaling: Reverse osmosis membranes are prone to the accumulation of mineral salts during water treatment, resulting in scaling. Specific components in scale inhibitors can reduce the solubility and crystallization rate of mineral salts by complexing or dissolving them, thereby reducing the occurrence of scaling.

Inhibition of colloidal particle deposition: Colloidal particles in water can also cause blockage and pollution of the reverse osmosis membrane. Scale inhibitors can change the surface charge of colloidal particles through the action of surfactants or dispersants, causing them to repel each other, preventing the deposition of colloidal particles and blocking membrane pores

Disperse organic matter: Some organic substances such as oils, proteins, colloids, etc. can also contaminate the reverse osmosis membrane. The dispersant in scale inhibitors can interact with organic substances to disperse and separate them, avoiding their attachment to the membrane surface.

Clean the surface of the membrane: The cleaning components in the scale inhibitor can help remove dirt and deposits that have already settled on the membrane surface, maintaining the good permeability of the membrane.

In summary, the role of reverse osmosis membrane scale inhibitors is to prevent and reduce fouling, blockage, and pollution on the membrane surface, in order to improve the efficiency and stability of the reverse osmosis system. Please note that when using scale inhibitors, appropriate products and correct usage methods should be selected based on the specific situation, and the recommendations and instructions provided by the manufacturer should be followed.
