The Function and Application of Sodium Polyacrylate

Posted on September 26, 2023 By admin No Comments on The Function and Application of Sodium Polyacrylate

Polyacrylic acid sodium PAAS is a negatively charged polymer compound commonly used as a flocculant, dispersant, and corrosion inhibitor. The following are the main functions and uses of sodium polyacrylate:

Flocculant: Sodium polyacrylate can adsorb suspended particles in water and form larger flocs, thereby helping the suspended solids settle quickly or filter through filters. It is widely used in water treatment, wastewater treatment, and suspended solids removal in industrial production.

Dispersant: Sodium polyacrylate can improve the dispersibility of particles, solids, or colloids in liquids, preventing them from gathering together and forming clumps. In industries such as pigments, coatings, paper, and ceramics, sodium polyacrylate is often used as a dispersant to stabilize the dispersion of pigment particles.

Corrosion inhibitor: Sodium polyacrylate has certain corrosion inhibition performance, which can form a protective film on the metal surface and slow down the rate of metal corrosion. It is often used to prevent metal corrosion in water systems, cooling cycles, and metal processing.

Water treatment agent: Sodium polyacrylate has various applications in water treatment. It can adjust the pH value of water and improve the stability of water quality; It can also serve as a chelating agent to form complexes with metal ions in water, reducing the impact of metal ions on equipment and pipelines; In addition, it can also be used to treat industrial wastewater, sewage, and papermaking wastewater.

Other applications: sodium polyacrylate can also be used to prepare gel, thickener and adsorption materials. It also has certain applications in fields such as personal care products, pharmaceuticals, oil extraction, and food processing.

It should be noted that the specific use and dosage of sodium polyacrylate may vary depending on different application fields and process requirements. Therefore, in practical applications, it is necessary to choose and control according to the specific situation. At the same time, relevant safety operation guidelines should be followed during use, and compliance with local regulations and standards should be ensured.
