PAPEMP, fully known as polyamino polyether methylene phosphonic acid, is a novel water treatment chemical. It exhibits high chelating and dispersing properties, high calcium tolerance, and outstanding scale inhibition performance. PAPEMP functions as a corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor in circulating cooling water systems, particularly suited for environments with high hardness, high alkalinity, and high pH levels. It exhibits strong scale inhibition against calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate, effectively stabilizes iron, zinc, and manganese oxides, and demonstrates high efficacy against silica and silicates. Furthermore, PAPEMP exhibits synergistic biocidal effects when combined with certain non-oxidizing biocides. PAPEMP exhibits exceptionally strong scale inhibition; for instance, it suppresses calcium carbonate deposition even at concentrations 300 times the solubility product of calcium carbonate. Its calcium tolerance is extremely high, thousands of times greater than that of HEDP (hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid). PAPEMP permits operation under alkaline conditions with high calcium, high alkalinity, and concentration ratios up to 10. It can also serve as a membrane scale inhibitor in reverse osmosis systems and as a scale inhibitor and corrosion inhibitor in high-salinity, high-turbidity, high-temperature systems such as multi-stage flash systems and high-temperature, high-turbidity coal-based water systems. It also serves as a textile printing and dyeing aid and papermaking additive (yellowing inhibitor), substituting for EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), DTPA (diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid), and NTA (nitrilotriacetic acid).
The standard dosage for PAPEMP is 5–100 mg/L. Unlike other chemicals, higher dosages yield better results, and it can be blended with polycarboxylic acids and other agents.
Polyamino Polyether Methylene Phosphonic Acid Packaging and Usage
PAPEMP is typically packaged in plastic drums, each containing 25 kg or 250 kg. It should be stored indoors in a cool, shaded area with a shelf life of ten to twelve months. As PAPEMP is acidic, proper labor protection is required during handling to avoid contact with skin or eyes. In case of contact, immediately rinse thoroughly with copious amounts of water.
