The role of water treatment agents

Posted on October 26, 2023October 26, 2023 By admin No Comments on The role of water treatment agents

Water treatment agents are chemicals used to improve water quality, and they can play different roles in the water treatment process. The following are some common water treatment agents and their effects:

Disinfectant: Disinfectants are used to kill or inhibit microorganisms in water, such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Common disinfectants include chloride, ozone, and ultraviolet radiation. The function of disinfectants is to protect the public from waterborne diseases.

Flocculant: Flocculant is used to remove suspended solids and turbid substances from water. They can promote the aggregation of suspended solids to form larger particles, facilitating subsequent sedimentation or filtration. Common flocculants include aluminum salts and polymers.

3. pH regulator: pH regulator is used to adjust the acidity and alkalinity of water. The acidity and alkalinity of water are crucial for many water treatment processes and industrial applications. PH regulators can increase or decrease the acidity and alkalinity of water to meet specific needs.

Softeners: Softeners are used to remove hard substances such as calcium and magnesium ions from water. Hard water can cause blockage of pipelines and equipment, and softeners can exchange calcium and magnesium ions with other ions through the ion exchange process, thereby reducing the hardness of the water.

Chelating agent: Chelating agent is used to remove heavy metal ions such as lead, mercury, and chromium from water. Chelating agents can form stable complexes with heavy metal ions to prevent their deposition or environmental pollution.

Buffer: Buffer is used to maintain the acid-base balance of water and prevent drastic changes in pH value. They can absorb or release hydrogen ions, maintaining the stability of water.

Overall, water treatment agents play different roles in the water treatment process, including disinfection, flocculation, adjustment of pH, softening of water quality, and removal of heavy metals. They help improve water quality, ensure water safety, and meet specific application needs.
