The role of water treatment agents

Water treatment chemicals are chemicals used to improve water quality, purify water sources, and treat various pollutants in water. They have multiple functions, including:

Disinfection and sterilization: Water treatment agents can kill or inhibit microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites in water, thereby reducing bacterial pollution of water sources and the spread of infectious diseases.

Chelation and precipitation: Water treatment agents can form complexes with metal ions in water, stabilizing and dispersing them in the water, thereby reducing the impact of metal ions on water quality and equipment. They can also cause the precipitation of some pollutants, which can be removed from the water.

Residue removal: Water treatment agents can react chemically with organic matter, oils, and other pollutants in water, decompose or convert them into substances that can be filtered or precipitated, thereby reducing the residue content in water.

PH regulation: Water treatment agents can regulate the acidity and alkalinity of water to meet the requirements suitable for specific applications such as industrial production or agricultural irrigation.

Buffering effect: Water treatment agents can stabilize the pH value of water, prevent severe fluctuations in acidity and alkalinity, and protect equipment and pipelines from corrosion or blockage.

Turbidity control: Water treatment agents can help reduce suspended particulate matter in water, reduce water turbidity, and improve water transparency.

Membrane cleaning: For water treatment systems that use membrane separation technologies such as reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration, water treatment agents can be used to clean and maintain membranes, preventing membrane blockage and pollution.

Overall, the role of water treatment agents is to purify water sources, remove pollutants, ensure water quality safety and meet specific needs, while protecting equipment and pipelines from damage. The specific type of water treatment agent used and its dosage will vary depending on different water quality conditions and water treatment goals.
