The Function and Efficacy of Polyacrylic Acid

Posted on August 11, 2023 By admin No Comments on The Function and Efficacy of Polyacrylic Acid

Polyacrylic acid (PAA) is an important synthetic polymer material with various functions and effects. The following are the main functions and efficacy of polyacrylic acid:

Dispersant: Polyacrylic acid can be used as an excellent dispersant, which can evenly disperse solid particles or liquid droplets in the solution, prevent their agglomeration, and maintain the stability of the dispersion system. Therefore, it is widely used in industries such as dyes, pigments, coatings, and inks.

Sustained release agent: Polyacrylic acid has good adsorption performance, which can adsorb active substances such as drugs and fertilizers onto its molecular chains, and control its release rate through slow release to achieve long-lasting and effective effects. This has led to the widespread application of polyacrylic acid as a sustained-release agent in fields such as medicine and agriculture.

Water treatment agent: Polyacrylic acid can form complexes with metal ions, thereby improving water quality, reducing impurities and precipitates in water, preventing blockage and corrosion of pipelines and equipment, and improving water quality and purification efficiency. Therefore, polyacrylic acid is widely used as a water treatment agent and plays an important role in industrial and household water treatment.

Thickener: Due to the highly polymeric nature of polyacrylic acid molecular chains, it can form a large number of cross-linked structures in solution, which increases the viscosity of the solution and has a thickening effect. Therefore, polyacrylic acid is often used as a thickener and is widely used in various products, such as detergents, cosmetics, paints, etc.

Sulfate sealing agent: Polyacrylic acid can react with sulfates and is used as an anti leakage material in underground engineering. By reacting with sulfate in groundwater, dense gel is formed to effectively seal rock fractures and pores and prevent water infiltration.

It should be noted that the specific usage should be matched and applied according to different fields and specific needs to ensure the best effect and safety.
