The stabilising role and effect of HPMA (hydrolysed polymaleic anhydride) in coatings is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

I. Stabilising effect

  1. Disperse pigment and filler:
  • As a dispersant, HPMA can effectively disperse pigment and filler particles in coatings to prevent them from aggregation and precipitation, so as to maintain the uniformity and stability of coatings.
  • Through the interaction between the functional groups on its molecular chain and the surface of pigments and fillers, HPMA can reduce the surface tension between particles and make them better dispersed in the coating system.

Improved pigment dispersion:

  • The dispersing effect of HPMA helps to improve the dispersion of pigments, enabling pigment particles to be more evenly distributed in the coating, thus improving the colour vibrancy and hiding power of the coating.
