National Standard for Corrosion Inhibitors and Scale Inhibitors

Posted on October 22, 2025October 22, 2025 By admin No Comments on National Standard for Corrosion Inhibitors and Scale Inhibitors

Corrosion and scale inhibitors are chaicals used to prevent metal corrosion and scale deposition. In China, the national standard for corrosion and scale inhibitors is GB/T 20476-2006 “Boiler Water Treatment Agents – Corrosion and Scale Inhibitors.” This standard specifies detailed technical requiraents, test methods, inspection rules, and provisions for labeling, packaging, transportation, and storage.

According to this standard, corrosion inhibitors and scale inhibitors must meet the following primary technical requiraents:

Primary Components: The standard imposes restrictions on the composition of corrosion inhibitors and scale inhibitors, including specified content ranges for corrosion inhibitors and scale inhibitors. Different types of corrosion inhibitors and scale inhibitors may utilize distinct combinations of components.

Corrosion Inhibition Performance: The standard specifies corrosion inhibition rate requiraents under various conditions to ensure effective reduction of metal corrosion.

Scale Inhibition Performance: The standard sets requiraents for scale inhibition effectiveness, including the ability to suppress scale deposition and prevent crystalline scale blockages.

Solubility: Corrosion and scale inhibitors must dissolve rapidly in water to ensure uniform dispersion during water treatment processes.

Environmental Friendliness: The standard imposes restrictions on the environmental impact of corrosion and scale inhibitors, including heavy metal content and organic residue levels.

Beyond GB/T 20476-2006, “Boiler Water Treatment Agents – Corrosion and Scale Inhibitors,” corrosion and scale inhibitors may also be applicable to other specific fields, such as cooling water treatment. Additional relevant industry standards or internal corporate standards may exist for different application areas.

It is recommended that in specific applications, users carefully review relevant standards based on the required type of corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor and the target application area to ensure the selected and used products comply with corresponding regulations and requiraents.
