T-225 is a type of corrosion inhibitor typically used in water treatment applications, particularly for protecting metal surfaces in cooling water systems, boilers, or closed-loop water systems. It often contains tolyltriazole (TTA) or benzotriazole, which are commonly used to protect copper and copper alloys, as well as other metals like steel and aluminum from corrosion.

How to Use T-225:

  1. Dosage:
    • Cooling Water Systems: The typical dosage for T-225 in cooling systems ranges from 5 to 15 ppm (parts per million) depending on the water quality, system size, and the severity of corrosion risk. Adjustments should be made based on the specific operating conditions.
    • Boiler Water Systems: For boiler water systems, the dosage can be different and may range from 5 to 20 ppm, depending on the system’s operating pressure and the concentration of dissolved oxygen.
  2. Application Method:
    • Continuous Dosing: T-225 is typically applied using a continuous feed system to ensure consistent protection of metal surfaces. A chemical dosing pump can be used to deliver the corrosion inhibitor directly into the circulating water stream.
    • Batch Dosing: In some cases, it can also be dosed manually as a batch treatment, though continuous dosing is generally preferred for better corrosion control.
  3. Monitoring:
    • Regular monitoring of pH, conductivity, corrosion rates, and inhibitor concentration in the system is necessary to ensure effective performance.
    • Corrosion coupons or online monitoring devices may be used to track the efficiency of T-225 in controlling corrosion.
  4. Compatibility:
    • T-225 is typically compatible with other common water treatment chemicals, such as scale inhibitors, biocides, and dispersants. However, it is essential to verify compatibility with specific chemicals in use to avoid adverse reactions.
  5. Conditions for Use:
    • It is most effective in neutral to alkaline pH ranges (pH 7–9). Make sure that the system is operating within this pH range for optimal performance.
    • Ensure that T-225 is applied in systems that do not contain high levels of oxidizing agents like chlorine, as these could reduce its effectiveness by degrading the inhibitor.

Applications:

  • Cooling Towers: T-225 is widely used in open and closed cooling systems to protect copper, brass, and steel parts from corrosion.
  • Boilers: It can also be used in low- to medium-pressure boiler systems to prevent corrosion, especially in systems with copper components.
  • Chilled Water Systems: T-225 is effective in closed-loop systems such as those used for chilled water to prevent corrosion of pipes and equipment.

By following these guidelines, T-225 can provide reliable and long-term protection of metal surfaces in industrial water treatment systems.
