Dodecyl Dimethyl Amine Oxide

Posted on March 15, 2025 By admin No Comments on Dodecyl Dimethyl Amine Oxide
Dodecyl Dimethyl Amine Oxide is commonly known as Lauramine Oxide. Here is a detailed introduction:

Basic Information

  • Chemical Formula: C14H31NO
  • Molecular Weight: 229.40
  • Synonyms: Lauramine Oxide; N,N – Dimethyl – 1 – dodecanamine oxide; DDAO

Physical and Chemical Properties

  • Appearance: Usually appears as a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid.
  • Odor: It has a faint odor.
  • Melting Point: Around 25 – 27°C.
  • Boiling Point: Decomposes before boiling under normal pressure.
  • Solubility: It is soluble in water and various organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone. It shows good solubility in both polar and non – polar solvents due to its amphiphilic structure.

Chemical Properties

  • It is a type of amine oxide surfactant. The amine oxide group in the molecule has both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties, which gives it good surface – active properties. It can reduce the surface tension of liquids, improve the wettability and emulsifying ability of substances. In aqueous solutions, it can form micelles, and its properties may change with the change of pH value.

Uses

  • Household Cleaning Products: It is widely used in detergents, shampoos, bath lotions, and other products. It can enhance the cleaning effect, improve the foaming property and stability of the products, and at the same time, has a certain conditioning and anti – static effect.
  • Personal Care Products: It is an important ingredient in cosmetics such as facial cleansers and conditioners. It can make the product feel more comfortable when used, and help to improve the quality and performance of the product.
  • Industrial Applications: It is used in some industrial processes such as textile printing and dyeing, papermaking, and oilfield chemistry. For example, in textile printing and dyeing, it can be used as a leveling agent and a wetting agent to improve the dyeing effect and the quality of the fabric.

Safety Considerations

  • It is generally considered to have low toxicity, but direct contact with the skin and eyes may cause irritation. In case of contact, it should be rinsed immediately with plenty of water. When using it, appropriate protective measures should be taken to avoid inhalation of its vapor or mist.
