Types and effects of water-based dispersants

Posted on August 11, 2023August 11, 2023 By admin No Comments on Types and effects of water-based dispersants

Waterborne dispersants are a type of chemical substance used to stabilize solid particles or droplets suspended in water. They can disperse solid or liquid dispersed phases in the aqueous phase, forming a uniform and stable dispersion system. The following are several common water-based dispersants and their effects:

Anionic dispersants: Anionic dispersants have hydrophilicity and can interact with positively charged particles or molecules, making them negatively charged and stably dispersed in water. These dispersants are commonly used for the dispersion of dyes, pigments, cellulose, powder coatings, etc., to help maintain uniform color and particle distribution.

Cationic dispersants: Cationic dispersants have lipophilicity and can interact with negatively charged particles or molecules, making them positively charged and dispersed in the aqueous phase. These dispersants are commonly used in lotion, emulsions, polymer dispersion systems, etc., to promote the dispersion and stability of oil-water phase.

Non ionic dispersants: Non ionic dispersants are composed of molecules with hydrophilicity and lipophilicity, without charge. They achieve dispersion through mechanisms such as surface activity and micelle formation. These dispersants are commonly used in fields such as coatings, paints, dyes, adhesives, etc., helping to disperse solid particles or droplets, improving product stability and quality.

Polymer dispersant: Polymer dispersant is a type of water-soluble polymer with high molecular weight that can undergo physical or chemical adsorption with solid particles or droplets, forming a stable dispersion system. These dispersants are widely used in the dispersion of nanomaterials, colloidal particles, mineral fillers, etc., helping to control particle size, distribution, and stability.

Overall, the role of water-based dispersants is to promote the dispersion and stability of solid particles or droplets in water. They can improve the rheological properties, color uniformity, and stability of products, while also improving the operability and efficiency of the process. Different types of dispersants are suitable for different dispersion systems and application fields.
