Are all deoxidizers reducers

Posted on October 13, 2023 By admin No Comments on Are all deoxidizers reducers

Deoxidizers typically refer to a type of chemical that can remove oxygen from liquids by reacting with oxygen to form oxides or carbon dioxide that are not easily soluble in water. And not all deoxidizers are reducing agents, some deoxidizers are non reducing agents.

Deoxidizers can be roughly divided into the following two categories:

Reducing deoxidizers: These deoxidizers are usually some reducing agents that can participate in redox reactions, such as sulfites, ferrous sulfate, carbon disulfide, sodium peroxide, etc. They can reduce oxygen to water or oxides by reacting with oxygen, and themselves are oxidized into oxidized compounds or consumed.

Non reducing deoxidizers: These types of deoxidizers are usually substances that absorb or chemically change oxygen, such as benzoquinone derivatives, iron ions, etc. They remove oxygen by absorbing it or chemically reacting with it, but do not participate in redox reactions.

It should be noted that although some deoxidizers are reducing agents, not all reducing agents can be used as deoxidizers. In addition, the use of reducing agents also carries certain safety risks. Before use, it is necessary to carefully read the product instructions and follow the corresponding safety operating procedures.
