Polyacrylic acid (PAA) is a commonly used polymer compound with various applications and effects. The following are some of the main functions of polyacrylic acid:

Corrosion inhibitor: Polyacrylic acid can be used as one of the components of corrosion inhibitors. It can adsorb on the metal surface to form a protective film, reducing the corrosion reaction between the metal and the environment. This protective film can prevent contact with oxygen, water, or other corrosive media, thereby slowing down the corrosion rate of metals.

Suspension agent: Polyacrylic acid itself has good dispersion and suspension properties, and can form a stable colloidal suspension system in aqueous solution. Therefore, polyacrylic acid is often used as a suspension agent to stabilize the dispersion of particles and prevent sedimentation and accumulation.

Scale inhibitor: Polyacrylic acid can react with hardness ions (such as calcium and magnesium ions) in water to form soluble complexes. These complexes can prevent the formation of solid precipitates by hardness ions, thereby preventing scaling and blockage on the surfaces of pipelines, equipment, etc.

Hygroscopic agent: Due to the presence of carboxylic acid groups in polyacrylic acid, it has hygroscopic properties. In some applications, polyacrylic acid can be used as a hygroscopic agent to absorb moisture from the surrounding environment, playing a role in regulating moisture and moisturizing.

It should be noted that the effect of polyacrylic acid is related to its molecular weight, concentration, pH value, and environmental conditions. Therefore, in practical applications, adjustments and optimizations need to be made according to specific circumstances to achieve the best results.
