Polyacrylic acid (PAA) is a high molecular polymer synthesized by polymerization of acrylic acid monomers. Polyacrylic acid has the following characteristics:

High dispersibility: Polyacrylic acid can quickly dissolve in water, forming a highly dispersed solution.

High water absorption: polyacrylic acid has excellent water absorption performance, which can absorb dozens or hundreds of times of its own water to form gel like substances.

Ionicity: Polyacrylic acid can dissociate into negatively charged acrylic ions in aqueous solution, thus possessing anionic properties.

High viscosity: Due to the large molecular weight and spatial structure of polyacrylic acid molecular chains, their aqueous solutions typically exhibit high viscosity.

Polyacrylic acid has a wide range of applications, including but not limited to the following aspects:

Water absorbent: polyacrylic acid gel can be used as water absorbent in sanitary products, baby diapers, medical dressings and other products to absorb and maintain a large amount of liquid.

Water treatment agent: Polyacrylic acid and its derivatives are widely used in the field of water treatment, and can be used as water purifiers, desalination agents, corrosion inhibitors, etc., for treating wastewater and industrial water.

Thickener and dispersant: Due to the high viscosity and dispersibility of polyacrylic acid, it can be used as a thickener and dispersant, playing a role in regulating viscosity and dispersing particles in coatings, adhesives, paints, and other fields.

Pharmaceutical field: Polyacrylic acid is often used in the pharmaceutical field to prepare controlled release drugs, oral care products, and water-based adhesives.

It should be noted that polyacrylic acid itself is a relatively safe compound, but it still needs to follow relevant regulations and operating guidelines during use, and pay attention to personal and environmental protection.
